about

This composition is inspired by the melodic and rhythmic structures of India. The opening theme has characteristics of an Indian Raga and is set in a 7 beat cycle, ending with a traditional Indian rhythmic cadence. The next section slowly morphs into a more open melodic canvas in which the bass and drums solo in 16 beats. Weaving melodies imposed on the tala resolve into the last section, an alto solo in 6 beats. The composition climaxes and snaky saxophone melodies lead into the final tehai (rhythmic cadence).
